17 USEFUL CHINESE WORDS


Living in China can be tough especially if you don’t know the language. Overtime one does luckily pick up some basic phrases that makes getting by a little easier. In the following post I will share 17 useful Chinese words that I have learned thus far.


  1. nǐ hǎo (listen) : Hello 
  2. wéi (listen) : Hello when answering the the phone.
  3. nǐ hǎo ma (listen): How are you?
  4. wǒ hěn hǎo , nǐ ne (listen): I am  fine thank you, and you?
  5. Zǎoshànghǎo (listen): Good Moring.
  6. Wǔān (listen): Good Afternoon
  7. Wǎnshànghǎo (listen): Good Evening
  8. Wǎnān (listen): Good night
  9. Zàijiàn (listen): Goodbye
  10. xièxie(listen): Thank you
  11. mànmàn chī (listen):Bon appetit
  12. gān bēi (listen): Cheers 
  13. wǒ tīngbùdǒng (listen): I don't understand
  14. duìbùqǐ  (listen): Sorry
  15. Zhège duōshǎo qián?(listen):  How much for this?
  16. cèsuǒ zài nǎli?(listen): Where is the toilet?
  17. búyào dǎrǎo wǒ:(listen): Leave me alone!

    I am trying to learn a bit of chinese by myself and this is a good place to start.
    I learned a bit of Japanese, but they are very different languages I heard.
